Food storage containers come in a variety of materials and designs, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. Here are the most common types of food storage containers and what you need to know about them:

Reusable plastic containers: These are the most popular food storage containers because of their affordability, light weight and versatility. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes and are perfect for packing lunches and storing leftovers. However, they are not very sturdy and can be damaged and warped over time. Glass containers: These are more environmentally friendly and sustainable than plastic containers. They are microwave and dishwasher safe and don’t absorb stains or odors like plastics. Glass containers are also great for reheating food in the oven or toaster oven. However, they are heavier than plastic containers and can be expensive. Look for containers with snap-lock covers and silicone seals to prevent leaks.

Silicone bags: These are a great way to store snacks, sandwiches and water. It is made of food grade silicone and is recyclable, dishwasher safe and microwave safe. Silicone bags are also more space efficient than plastic containers, as they can be flattened when empty. However, it is not ideal for storing many foods and can easily spill if not properly covered.

Consider your lifestyle and dietary needs when choosing a dresser. Do you need easy-to-carry containers? Do you reheat your food in the microwave or oven? Do you want an environmentally friendly alternative? Once you know what you are looking for, it will be easier to find the right containers for your needs. For example, I use reusable plastic containers to pack lunches and snacks to bring to work, while I prefer glass containers for storing leftovers in the fridge or freezer.

Size and shape: Consider the size of your food and the space available in your fridge and freezer. Choose containers that are the right size for your portions and fit easily without taking up too much space in your refrigerator or freezer. Airtight: Make sure the jars have tight lids that seal well to prevent moisture from entering and to keep your food fresh. Microwave and dishwasher safety: If you plan to reheat food in the microwave, choose microwave-safe dishes. Also, look for dish-proof dishes for easy cleaning. BPA-free: Choose BPA-free containers to keep harmful chemicals out of your food.
